• The Vibe: Totally relaxed, highly authentic, and far cheaper. You will eat the best food in the city here alongside local students and artists. However, you must take a ferry every morning to see the historical sites on the European side.

Which Airport for Which Neighborhood?

Istanbul has two airports on opposite ends of the city, and matching your flight to your hotel district saves real time and money. Staying in Sultanahmet or Beyoğlu? Fly into Istanbul Airport (IST) if you can: it is on the same (European) side, with a fixed-price transfer to Sultanahmet from €50 (48 km, 50–75 minutes) and Taksim from €50 (40 km, 45–60 minutes). Staying in Kadıköy? Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is far closer: just 30 km and 40 to 60 minutes, with fixed transfers from €45. Land on the wrong side and you add a Bosphorus crossing — doable, but budget up to 90 minutes in traffic.
