What is the Istanbulkart?

The Istanbulkart is the city's integrated, contactless smart card for all public transportation. It works on the Metro, Trams, Metrobuses, public ferries (Vapur), funiculars, and even some public toilets. If you plan to explore the city extensively, it is essential.

Where to Buy and Load It

You can buy an anonymous Istanbulkart from the yellow or blue automated kiosks (Biletmatik) located at the entrance of almost every metro or tram station, as well as at the airport. The machine will charge a small fee for the physical card itself, and you can then load it with Turkish Lira cash notes.
